Marya Frankel

Marya Frankel is a former junior high school teacher and now a stay at home mom in a blended family with six kids.

She’s been involved in many Evanston organizations, including mentoring high school students at Boys Hope/Girls Hope and Evanston Scholars and Books and Breakfast, Erie Health Center, Women in Recovery, 2nd Baptist Church Soup Kitchen and St. Athanasius Parish. Marya serves on the board of the Justin Wynn Foundation and the Frankel Family Foundation with a focus on climate issues and refugee education. She first became involved with YOU over 12 years ago when she was a tutor. More recently she has been involved with their culinary program. 

Marya has a BA in English Literature and MA in education from the University of Illinois and taught in the Chicago Public schools in the 1990’s.  Marya and her husband Peter grew up in Evanston and graduated from Nichols Middle School and Evanston Township High School. All 6 of their children either graduated from, or are current students at ETHS as well.
